HKCNSA Syposium 2024 was successfully held to promote data security cooperation in the Greater Bay Area

On June 26, the first "HKCNSA Symposium 2024" organized by the Hong Kong China Network Security Association (HKCNSA) ended successfully. The symposium focused on the cybersecurity challenges facing the Greater Bay Area and Chinese cities, with key presentations and panel discussions to discuss cybersecurity and data privacy challenges and strategies. Bringing together industry leaders, policy makers and cybersecurity experts, Attending the opening ceremony were Mr. Kingsley Wong, Deputy Government Chief Information Officer, OGCIO; Ms. Ada Chung, The Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data of PCPD; Dr. Frank Law, Regional Commander of Kowloon East at HKPF; Mr. Raymond Lam, Chief Superintendent of Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau at HKPF; Mr. David Ip, Founding Chairman of HKCNSA; Mr. Wilson Tang, Deputy Chairman; and Mr. Fuller Yu, an Advisory Board. Witness the opening of this grand event.


At the beginning of the symposium, Mr. David Ip, as the founding chairman of HKCNSA, delivered a welcoming speech, stressing the importance and mission of the establishment of HKCNSA. He said the HKCNSA aims to serve as a bridge for mainland cybersecurity enterprises to go to the international market, while promoting close exchanges between global cybersecurity enterprises and professionals. In the work plan for the second half of the year, HKCNSA will set up a Macau branch, arrange visits to the mainland, organize regular member gatherings, exchange meetings, and support various charitable activities and data privacy training courses. He hopes to promote the industry's cybersecurity capabilities through cooperation with market leaders. At the same time, he especially thanked all the members of the association team for their strong support, it is their dedication and dedication that provide a solid foundation for the stable development of HKCNSA.

Mr. Kingsley Wong, Deputy Government Chief Information Officer, OGCIO, highlighted the key role of cybersecurity in the development of innovative technology in Hong Kong. He pointed out that with the advancement of digital transformation, the government and industry should work together to ensure a safe and secure network environment to promote the development of digital economy and the construction of smart cities. He also detailed the Government's various initiatives in enhancing cyber security, including the implementation of information sharing programs, the organization of security training activities and the formulation of security policies and guidelines, as well as close cooperation with international organizations. Finally, he called on all sectors of society to jointly address cyber security challenges and jointly build a safe and reliable digital future.

Ms. Ada Chung, The Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data of PCPD, pointed out the importance of Hong Kong in cybersecurity and data privacy protection. She said that with the increasing number of data and cyber-attacks, the protection of personal data has become a critical issue. PCPD actively promotes industry and public awareness and implementation of data security standards through regulatory, investigation and education activities, as well as the latest Artificial Intelligence (AI): a Model Framework for Personal Data Protection, which aims to help organizations use AI technology in a secure and compliant manner. She concluded by wishing the Forum a complete success and calling on the industry and stakeholders to work together to ensure that Hong Kong builds a strong and reliable cyber security defense.

Mr. Raymond Lam, Chief Superintendent of Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau at HKPF, pointed out that Hong Kong is facing increasing cybersecurity challenges, with several hacking and ransomware incidents occurring in the first four months of this year. Despite the rise in numbers, he believes it does not fully reflect the overall cybersecurity situation in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is at the center of a higher risk, with companies and institutions vulnerable to attacks if they are negligent. He also shared the differences between the East and the West in the deployment of cyber security, stressing that Hong Kong has the autonomy under the "one country, two systems" framework to integrate the technologies, processes and standards of the East and the West, and enhance cyber security through consultation and strategic cooperation. He hoped that through this event, all walks of life can strengthen exchanges and jointly consolidate the network security defense line.

At the symposium, Mr. Zhiquan Gao, Vice President of Sansec Hong Kong Co., Ltd, delivered a speech on " Research on the Post-Quantum Cryptography and Progress". Mr. Gao gave an in-depth analysis of the potential threats of quantum computing to modern cryptography, and detailed the research status of quantum-resistant cryptography. In addition, Mr. Chris Wong, Senior Regional Channel Systems Engineer of Veeam Software Hong Kong Limited, gave a presentation on the topic of "Leverage AI to Achieve Radical Resilience ". Mr. Wong introduced the application of artificial intelligence in the field of data security, including anomaly detection, risk assessment. It also shared practical cases on how to improve data security through artificial intelligence technology.

Mr. Wilson Tang, Vice Chairman of HKCNSA, gave a speech on " The Past, Current and Future of the CISO Role". Mr. Tang reviewed the evolution of the role of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), analyzed the challenges and opportunities faced by the current CISO, and prospected the development trend of the CISO in the future. And Mr. Fuller Yu, an advisory aboard of HKCNSA, discussed " Cyber Investment and Strategy". Mr. Yu analyzed the market prospects in the field of network security from the perspective of investment, and combined with specific cases, elaborated the formulation and implementation of network security principles, and provided suggestions and thoughts for enterprises to invest in the field of network security.

The first round of the panel discussion will be moderated by Mr. Ricky Leung, Vice Chairman of HKCNSA. The panelists will include Mr. Nelson Lai, Enterprise Architect Lead of HPE; Mr. Vincent Ng, member of the HKCNSA's Data Privacy Committee; and Mr. Billy Fung, Deputy Director of Financial Service Cybersecurity Committee. The theme is " The Security Awareness in AI transformation era". They had an in-depth discussion on the cybersecurity challenges in the AI era, the importance of security awareness, and how to strengthen cybersecurity protection. Some concrete suggestions and measures are put forward on how to formulate effective security principles, strengthen data protection and enhance security awareness.



Mr. Dicky Wong, Vice Chairman of HKCNSA, delivered a speech entitled " How AI Driven SOC Can Improve Cyber Resiliency", and he analyzed how, with the support of artificial intelligence technology, the Security Operations Center (SOC) can improve network resilience through intelligent and automated ways to effectively respond to increasingly complex network security threats. Mr. Wilson Wong, Vice Chairman of HKCNSA (Mo), made an in-depth discussion on the frequent ransomware attacks in the current network environment and their countermeasures. He analyzed the strategic options in the face of ransomware attacks, discussed the possible consequences and risks of paying ransom, and alternatives and best practices for non-payment of ransom.

The second panel discussion was moderated by Ms. Chandy Ye, Director of the Data Privacy Committee of HKCNSA. The speakers included Ms. Veronica Wang, Mr. William Tam and Mr. Vincent Ng, members of the Data Privacy Committee, who shared best practices and latest developments in dealing with data privacy from their respective fields of expertise. How to formulate effective data privacy protection strategy, strengthen data security management, and deal with data leakage and other challenges are discussed in depth.



Mr. Michael Cheung, Vice Chairman of HKCNSA, gave a talk on "Implementing Daily Cybersecurity Measures to Enhance Resiliency". He elaborated on the importance of everyday cybersecurity measures in enhancing cyber resilience and shared a series of practical cybersecurity measures to help enterprises or individuals effectively cope with changing cyber threats and security challenges. Then, Mr. Qinghua Yang, Senior Vice President of Hillstone Networks (HK) Limited, delivered a keynote speech on "Build Together for the Better Future". He emphasized the key role of information security innovation in building a better future, discussed the challenges and opportunities faced by current network security, and shared the innovative practice and experience of Hillstone Network Science in the field of information security.

The third round of panel discussion was led by Mr. Kalvin Lam, Vice Chairman and Cybersecurity Evaluation Committee of the HKCNSA, and joined hands with Mr. Fred Wu, General Manager of Solutions Centre, Cloud Business Group, Digital China at Yunke China Information Technology Limited, Mr. KK Dong, an Advisory Board of HKCNSA, and Mr. Noble Yin, a member of the Cybersecurity Evaluation Committee, to conduct in-depth exchanges on the theme of " Are You Ready for the Next Cyber Attack?" This paper mainly discusses how to effectively deal with the increasing hacker attacks in today's extremely challenging network security environment, and provides new ideas and methods for dealing with network attacks.



Mr. Billy Fung, Deputy Director of the Financial Services Cyber Security Committee, spoke on "How Xinchuang Help You on Cyber Resilience" Discussing this topic, he delves into the key role of information innovation in enhancing cyber resilience and shares specific strategies on how to improve cyber security defenses through innovative technologies. Mr. Nelson So, Senior Sales Engineer at Splunk Inc., spoke on " Boost Cyber Resilience by Modernizing SOC with Unified Threat Detection, Investigation and Response." From the perspective of a modern Cyber Security Operations Center (SOC), he shared Splunk's solutions for digital resilience and how advanced analytics tools and platforms are being used to address evolving cyber threats. Mr. Kok Tin Gan, a member of HKCNSA, shared the "Update of Cyber Threat Landscape and AI Security". He discussed the application prospects of artificial intelligence in the field of network security, and how to use intelligent technology to improve the defense capability and response speed of network security.
