Project PINPOINT, launched by Regional Missing Persons Unit of the East Kowloon Region of the Hong Kong Police Force in April 2022, aims to assist in the rapid and accurate location of missing vulnerable individuals and the elderly through the use of Bluetooth tracking technology. As of August this year, 1,800 tracking devices have been distributed, helping over a hundred missing persons reunite with their families, either independently or with police assistance, significantly saving police and social resources. The Project PINPOINT Alliance is an upgraded version of Project PINPOINT and is the first cross-sector collaboration program in Hong Kong, with 70 partner organizations establishing donation, promotion, and distribution platforms, expanding the service to four categories of high-risk missing persons, benefiting more people in need.
As a partner organization of the Project PINPOINT Alliance, HKCNSA fully supports Regional Missing Persons Unit of the East Kowloon Region and actively responds to Project PINPOINT by soliciting donations of Bluetooth tracking devices—AirTags from corporate and individual members of the association. To date, the association has received over 300 donated AirTags, demonstrating significant results. HKCNSA sincerely thanks the generous members and corporates for their contributions, which will provide care and support to more people in need, helping more missing persons return home.
According to police data, the aging population and the number of dementia patients in Hong Kong continue to increase, making the issue of missing persons more severe. Project PINPOINT has already shown initial success in alleviating the problem of missing persons. With the continuous expansion of the program and advancements in technology, it is believed that more vulnerable groups will benefit in the future. The donation campaign is still ongoing, and those interested in donating AirTags are encouraged to contact the association. Let us jointly support Project PINPOINT and provide a safer living environment for dementia patients and their families.
HKCNSA has always closely followed the welfare of vulnerable groups in Hong Kong and actively participated in social welfare projects. Looking ahead, the association will continue to collaborate with various government departments to protect and care for those in need, promoting resource sharing, information exchange, and the integration of professional knowledge, bringing more safety and care to Hong Kong society.
