On November 24, the TechFoward 24 network security event, organized by Edvance Technology Limited, an corporate member of the Hong Kong China Network Security Association (HKCNSA), was successfully held at The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong. The event attracted numerous network security professionals and executives. The theme of this event was " Fortifying Cybersecurity for Now and Beyond" and covered topics such as AI generative threats, data breaches, and ransomware, aiming to help businesses address the growing threats and compliance requirements. Mr. Raymond Liu, CEO of Edvance Technology Limited, and director of the China Information Security Innovation Committee, Mr. David Ip, founding chairman of the association, and vice presidents, Mr. Wilson Tang and Mr. Dicky Wong, attended the event and discussed the latest trends and technologies in network security with industry professionals.
Before the event began, Mr. Raymond Liu, CEO of Edvance Technology Limited, delivered a welcome speech. He first extended a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to all the guests attending the event on behalf of Edvance Technology Limited. He stated that in this rapidly digitizing era, protecting data security and network stability is crucial, and professionals from all walks of life need to work together to address the increasingly complex network security challenges and promote industry cooperation to safeguard the sustainable development of the digital age.
During the event, Mr. Kok Tin Gan, PwC Cyber Security and Privacy Partner, delivered a keynote speech, providing an overview of the network threats in 2023 and giving attendees insights into the latest trends and cutting-edge technologies in network security. He pointed out that ransomware organizations are becoming increasingly sophisticated but still largely opportunistic in their choice of targets. Network threat incidents in 2023 include Faust leveraging the Fortinet SSL VPN vulnerability to deploy ransomware on shipping companies and spy threat actors exploiting Citrix ADC and gateway vulnerabilities to compromise charitable organizations. These threats not only cause significant economic losses to businesses and individuals but also severely damage their reputations and customer trust. Therefore, enterprises and individuals should strengthen security training and technological prevention, keep systems up to date, and adopt multi-layered security measures.
Mr. Kenneth Ma, a corporate member of the association, and Senior Vice President of Green Radar Limited, gave a speech on the topic of "Immune to email phishing with AI" and highlighted that email phishing is a common method of network attack where attackers impersonate legitimate users' email addresses and use various means to entice users to click malicious links or download viruses, thereby stealing personal information or compromising system security. Therefore, enterprises need to actively address the threats of email phishing by enhancing the security of email systems through the adoption of AI technology to protect customer privacy and company interests.
In the future, the HKCNSA will continue to promote the development of the network security industry, facilitate exchanges and cooperation among industry stakeholders, jointly address network security challenges, and contribute to the construction of a secure and stable online environment.
